The Moderator Visits Aberdeen City

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Rt Rev Dr Iain Greenshields, visited Aberdeen City as part of plans for Founder's Day at the University of Aberdeen. While those plans did not all go ahead, the Presbytery of the North East and the Northern Isles' service in Aberdeen did proceed in Holburn West Parish Church on Thursday 9 February 2023.

The service was led by Rev Stella Campbell, Moderator of the Presbytery, and hosted by Rev Duncan Eddie, Minister of Holburn West. Dr Greenshields preached a powerful and hopeful message for the Kirk in a time of great change based on Jesus' Parable of the Good Samaritan and what it means to be a good and faithful neighbour.

As part of the service, the Moderator presented Long Service Certificates to members of congregations within the city. An astonishing 1,045 years of combined service to the Kirk and community was recognised and celebrated. This included Church Elders, Sunday School Leaders, Guild Members, Church Choir Members, and Boy's Brigade Officers.

Pictured above are some of those who received their certificates with the Moderator of the General Assembly centred and the Moderator of the Presbytery to his left and one row behind.
