The Moderator visits NENI Presbytery

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Rt Rev Sally Foster-Fulton, visited the Presbytery of the North East and the Northern Isles for the weekend, as part of the plans for the University of Aberdeen’s Founder’s Day held on Saturday 10th of February.

While the Moderator was in the area, the Presbytery held a number of services at which the Moderator preached, to honour the long service of over 50 elders, Sunday School Teachers and organists, with one being held at Kingshill Trinity Church on the evening of Friday 9th of February and one at Fraserburgh South Church on the morning of Sunday 11th of February.

The evening service was led and hosted by Rev Stella Campbell, the Moderator of Presbytery and Minister of Kingshill Parish. Mrs Foster-Fulton preached a strong sermon for the Kirk, which is going through a period of change, based on Jesus’ Parable of the Two House Builders and the theme of “Knowing Who You Are”.

The morning service in Fraserburgh was well attended (pictured right). Miss Ruth Mackenzie, Depute Presbytery Clerk and Interim Moderator of Aberdour linked with Pitsligo said of the presentation that "It was lovely to see the sheer pride on their faces as they accepted their certificates and were acknowledged publicly for their dedication and years of service." The service was led by Mr Robert Esson, Interim Moderator of Fraserburgh South Church and was held on Racial Justice Sunday and the Moderator gave a thought-provoking sermon reiterating the importance of the Ten Commandments at this present time.

The services included the Moderator presenting Long Service Certificates to members of congregations within the Presbytery, with over 2000 years of combined service being recognised and celebrated.

During her visit, the Moderator also joined in a celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Cults Parish Church's Kirk Centre being built. This was held on the 10th of February, and the Moderator was invited to cut the celebration cake, as well as enjoy an afternoon tea served by the Kirk Centre's popular singing waiters, who also entertained at the event.
