“Sea Sunday” is a worldwide day to honour, recognise, raise awareness of, and support the many men and women who keep our world moving through their work at sea. Often in dangerous and lonely conditions and spending months away from their families.
Churches across the UK and beyond came together to plan events on Sunday 13th July, marking this day of action. In Stonehaven, all the local churches of all denominations arranged events in the run up to Sunday, and they took part together in a special Harbour Service at 8AM on the breakwater pier in Stonehaven Harbour. The Stonehaven Lifeboat, the Sea Cadets, and the Seaman’s Mission were amongst the many organisations giving their direct support.
Fr Mark Impson, St Mary’s RC Church in Stonehaven, blessed the fleet during the open-air service, and both Fetteresso and Carronside Church of Scotland churches had parts to play at the Harbour Service and during their regular Sunday morning services too.
