On more than one occasion in my life I've been caught out because I've paid insufficient attention to the fine print. It is incredibly frustrating when you realise that you've not got what you thought you had paid for or you discover that the insurance you believed to be in place is in fact not. You fail to spot a deadline or you didn't quite tick all the right boxes. And usually it costs you money or time or both.
In the same way, sometimes I can be guilty of missing the finer details of the amazing and beautiful world in which I live. Creation is full of fine print - intricate details that inspire awe, when we take time to pause and consider them. From our bodies, which we tend to only fully appreciate when something is wrong with them, to our environment, which changes daily, to the other creatures who inhabit the earth, the sky and the seas, some of whom we have yet to find.
There is a wealth of evidence that the trinitarian God whom we worship pays incredible attention to detail. And, what I find even more humbling, is that the same God pays close attention to the details of my life.
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31
God, thankfully, does not suffer the same tendency to skim read the paperwork or lack of focus. He misses nothing.
And I find that incredibly comforting.
At the moment, in the Presbytery Office, we are wading through the details. Sometimes we don't quite get it all right. Thank you to those who have already pointed out a few anomalies in the Presbytery Roll. We do endeavour to get it and keep it as up to date as possible. But to help us, we would ask that you work with us on providing the necessary information when it is requested. For example - trustee details (for those who are full members of Presbytery).
The next task will be to update the Yearbook, which Patricia has already begun to work on. When it is published, can we ask that you review your own information in it, and let us know if there is anything that is incorrect or missing.
But in the midst of dealing with all the paperwork, don't forget to take a moment to appreciate the very different kind of fine detail that surrounds you - especially as summer gets into full swing.

"God’s love is meteoric, his loyalty astronomic, His purpose titanic, his verdicts oceanic. Yet in his largeness nothing gets lost; Not a man, not a mouse, slips through the cracks. How exquisite your love, O God! How eager we are to run under your wings, To eat our fill at the banquet you spread as you fill our tankards with Eden spring water. You’re a fountain of cascading light, and you open our eyes to light."
Psalm 36:5-9 The Message Translation
